Grasshoppers Hit the High Spot

30/9/2015

After drawing their first match of the season last weekend against JMs of Northants, Grasshopper decided to aim high in their first match against Brigg NC from Lincs.

They made a superb start and by the end of the first quarter, they were comfortably ahead and had only let in 4 goals. Today's 'player of the match', Laura Stokes (GD), and Tracy Glover (GK), combined well to cause problems for the Brigg attack and this very strong defence continued all through the match. Stokes in particular made several incredible, crucial interceptions.

By half time, Grasshoppers had a commanding lead, thanks to some sterling, fluid up-court movement by everyone, and a good conversion rate by circle attack Chloe McMakin (GS) and Donna Osborn (GA).

However, Grasshoppers didn't get absolutely everything their own way and Brigg fought back hard in the third quarter - moving from 4 goals to circa 18. It was not enough to catch Grasshoppers though, who had by now set themselves a target of scoring 70 goals by the end of the fourth quarter. The target was surpassed, with the final score reflecting how comfortable Grasshoppers were overall: 72-24. An excellent day's work by all players.
