Tough going for Falcons Yellow in Regional Division 1

13/11/2013

After a two week break Falcons Yellow took to the court in a midday battle against Bluetits.

The starting line up was Beth Jackson (GS), Keri Moorhouse (GA), Jo Holt (WA), Mel Brennan (C), Tamsin Mason (WD), Samantha Brown (GD), Liz Stevenson (GK), Rebecca Simms (Sub).

Both teams were perhaps without key players today and the match could have gone either way. Falcons Yellow had a depleted squad due to illness and non-availability, but they were determined to go all out for a win nonetheless.
The first quarter was rather tight with both sides scoring 10 goals apiece.

The second quarter saw Falcons Yellow make a change in attack: Simms replaced Holt who came off as a result of injury. The new attacking combination took their time to settle but still kept the pressure on their opponents leading up to the half time break. However, the quarter was a relatively low scoring affair and in the end Falcons Yellow went into the break 5 goals adrift (Overall score: Bluetits 20 – 15 Falcons Yellow).

The Bluetits GD kept a tight rein on Moorhouse during the third quarter making it difficult for the Falcons Yellow player to get into her stride. But both Moorhouse and Jackson managed to convert their chances when they came, which was often enough, thanks to some great defending at the other end of the court by Stevenson and Brown. Still, Falcons Yellow couldn’t claw back the five goal gap and the quarter ended 10 goals apiece again (Overall: Bluetits 30-25 Falcons Yellow).

Despite a great effort by Falcons Yellow, another win was to remain elusive as Bluetits kept up the pressure in the final quarter and increased their lead by a further 5 goals, running out eventual winners by ten goals.

The Final score Bluetits 40 – 30 Falcons Yellow.

The accolades must go to both Stevenson and Brown who were solid in defence for Falcons Yellow.
