Grasshoppers knew that this game against second-in-the-league Lincoln would be difficult having lost by just a single-goal to third-placed Brigg during their previous match.
After the first quarter, Grasshoppers were ahead by one goal through some excellent shooting and tight defensive play. During the second quarter, Tracy Glover and Megs Palmer in particular worked tirelessly in defence to overcome some excellent play by Lincs’ GS, helping Grasshoppers increase their lead to 6 by half time.

Lincs fought back strongly after the break but some excellent interceptions by Grasshoppers’ Selina Jones, Laura Harbour and Sophie Mills, accompanied by some accurate shooting from Donna Osborn and Beth Smith, extended the Leicestershire team’s lead to 7 at the end of the third quarter.
Lincs hit back at Grasshoppers in the final quarter and came within 5 goals of Grasshoppers’ lead. However, this was as good as it got as Grasshoppers overturned 3 centre passes and took 5 interceptions to storm ahead by 9. The lead was maintained and Grasshoppers won the match 52-43.
It was an excellent display of attacking play and controlled defence by the whole team. Shooting stats were at 90% and the Player of the Match was Beth Smith (GS). The win takes Grasshoppers to fourth in the league. Coach Anne Melling was delighted with the well-deserved win against a very competitive team, as were Grasshoppers’ new sponsors, Olivetti Group and Chaperone K9.
Squad: Tracy Glover, Megs Palmer, Laura Harbour, Selina Jones, Sophie Mills, Donna Osborn, Beth Smith, Kate Garner and Sarah Melling.
