Brigg returned to Loughborough University for their second East Midlands Regional League Division 2 match against a very energetic looking Grasshoppers team from Leicestershire. Both teams came out strong in the first quarter with some great court play and shooting. Grasshoppers’ defence was making it very difficult for Brigg to feed the ball into the circle. However Brigg’s Hannah Millns was on form, demonstrating strong holds and pin point shooting. In defence Becca Heald (GD) and Emily Fisher (WD) made some stunning interceptions throughout the court, which helped Brigg take the lead in Quarter 1, 12 goals to 9. | Starting Line up: GK - Meg Chapman GD - Becca Heald WD - Emily Fisher C - Rachel Borland WA - Bryony Franks GA - Pauling Antclif GS - Hannal Millns |
Brigg made some quarter time changes to their line-up, which unsettled the flow of their game during Quarter 2. Grasshoppers quickly took advantage, which resulted in the opposition gaining a significant lead and going on to win the second quarter by 17 goals to 5 (resulting in a half time score of 17 - 26 in Grasshoppers’ favour).
Further changes were made to the Brigg line up in Quarter 3, seeing Katie Guilliat taking to the court in place of Bryony Franks at WA and Pauline Antcliff back at GA and Hannah Millns back at GS respectively. Brigg began clawing back the score winning the quarter 10 - 7 but they were still 6 goals behind (overall score at the end of quarter 3: 27-33).
Quarter 4 saw both teams fighting for the game and although Brigg managed to win the quarter by 10 goals to 9 it was not quite enough to win the game.
The final score: Brigg 37-42 Grasshoppers.
Player of the Match went to Megan Chapman who was out of position at GK but gave 100% and put in a worthy performance!
