After the disappointment of losing the first two matches of 2013, Falcons Yellow were looking to stem the tide and get back to winning ways against Lincoln City 2. With the frustration of losing the second match of the New Year to Nottingham Knights still fresh in their minds, Falcons Yellow came out all guns blazing and were determined to enforce a convincing win over Lincoln City 2. The first quarter was a tight affair with Lincoln 2 taking the match to Falcons Yellow, testing their resolve. However the Derby-based team dug deep and came out on top at the end of the first quarter (16-10). It was a first-time outing for the shooting duo of Nina Warren (Goal Shooter, GS) and Weller Howard and it proved to be a winning combination with both players taking their chances on goal, converting with accuracy. Falcons Yellow started to settle into their stride and began to stamp their authority on the game up and down the court, playing with the confidence and fluidity that had been lacking in the previous two matches. The shooting duo were admirably assisted by Laura Owen (Wing Attack, WA) and Melanie Brennan (Centre, C) who both produced accurate feeds into the circle. Owen in particular was on top form.
At the other end of the court it was business as usual. The starting defensive trio of Beth Jackson (Goal Keeper, GK), Liz Stevenson (Goal Defence, GD) and Samantha Brown (Wing Defence, WD) produced the solid defensive display which has been evident throughout the whole of the season. Half time saw Stevenson come off for a well-earned rest, meaning a change round in the circle as Brown moved to Goal Defence (GD) and Rebecca Sims to Wing Defence (WD). The final quarter saw Beth Jackson come off to be replaced by Stevenson at Goal Keeper (GK). Overall, it was a solid team effort with Falcons Yellow securing a comprehensive 70-36 win. Warren and Howard shared the honours for Player of the Match. With two games remaining Falcons Yellow edged closer to the Division Two title, in the knowledge that they still have to win the remaining games against Grasshopper and Charnwood Sapphires to ensure their return to the East Midlands Netball Regional League Division One. The Line up for today’s match was Nina Warren (GS), Weller Howard (GA), Laura Owen (WA), Melanie Brenan (C), Samantha Brown (WD, GD), Liz Stevenson (GD, GK), Beth Jackson (GK) and Rebecca Sims (sub WD).
