Into Officiating

The Young Umpire Award and Beginner Award umpiring courses have merged and will now be known as ‘Into Officiating’. The details of the new course are below.​

NB: Any Beginner courses already registered with Head Office can take place prior to January 2016 and assessments can take place within the current timeframe. YUA courses in their current format can take place for the remainder of this academic year (until July 2016)- all moderations must also take place by this date.

Aim
To introduce the rudiments of umpiring a netball match at junior/youth/adult level in a club environment
 
Outcomes to be achieved on the course
  • To have some knowledge of the basic rules of the game
  • To identify obvious basic infringements of the rules
  • To apply correct use of voice, whistle and terminology
  • To be aware of correct movement and positioning
  • To keep an accurate scorecard and call the score (when Match Bench Officials are not provided)
  • Prepare candidates for assessment process

 Youth Umpire Award and Beginners course

Who can attend?
Young people (from 12 years of age) and adults who have had no experience of umpiring
This course is strongly recommended prior to attending a C award course, but is not mandatory
 
Course duration
Total of 6 hours

Assessment details

Learners will be required to attend the course and then undertake an assessment of the rules (written) and a practical assessment.
For those officiating in schools, a practical assessment will not be required. Any officiating outside of the school requirement must only be undertaken following a practical assessment.
