Falcons used the break to move players around – Kaylea moved to WD, Eleanor to C, Olivia to WA, Christie to GA, and Gaby to GS with Emily taking a rest. The team settled quickly in their new setup and began the quarter by breaking Telstars’ first centre pass through a great interception from Dom (GD). Falcons then patiently took the ball through the court where Christie scored a long range shot. It was a great team effort by Falcons during this quarter, with all 7 players forcing Telstars away from goal on a number of occasions. Best of all, Falcons held 90% of their own centre passes, and won the quarter by 1 goal (Falcons scored 9 to Telstar’s 8) leaving the overall score Falcons 18 – 24 Telstars.
Telstars took the opportunity to bring on fresh legs after half time whilst Falcons retained the seven players who finished the second quarter. Falcons once again started strongly, capitalising on most of the turnovers created and thus edging closer to Telstars’ score. From then on it was goal for goal as both teams tried to hit quickly on the break, which inevitably led to a number of unforced errors creeping in from both sides. However, Falcons’ Olivia and Eleanor worked extremely hard in attack to open up the space and feed the ball into the circle for Gaby and Christie to convert. The defence unit (Dom, Kaylea, and Iman) also worked tirelessly to deny Telstars space, meaning the quarter ended with the quarter scores close at Falcons 11 – 12 Telstars (overall: Falcons 29 – 36 Falcons).
Falcons moved Dominque to GK and Iman to GD for the last fifteen minutes. The team upped the intensity and created a number of turnovers within the first few minutes through Dominque Mckee (GK), Iman Thomas (GD), Kaylea McQuade (WD) in defence. Falcons took advantage of the opportunities, helped by Gaby Titley-Wilson’s (GS) confident play in attack and Christie’s (GA) dictating of much of the attacking third. Great netball was witnessed but Falcons still made 3-4 unforced errors, which Telstars capitalised on. This put Falcons on the back foot once again, which led to Falcons losing the quarter 9-12.
The final score was Falcons 28 – 48 Telstars.
Congratulations to Falcons’ ‘Players of the Match’, Kaylea McQuade and Christie Simpson. Special thanks to Paula Watson and Deb Wilson for scoring/timekeeping and sorting out all of the refreshments – your help is much appreciated.
