Quarter 2
Both teams held their own respective first centre passes during the second quarter. However, turnovers soon took over, as both sides applied pressure on their opposition. Neither team could capitalise on their interceptions though until the final two minutes before half time, when Falcons broke Hornets’ centre pass through a flying interception from Iman Thomas outside the goal circle. Falcons took the ball to the goal third where Gaby Titley-Wilson (GS) scored. The home team then held their own centre pass to draw the quarter, 11 goals apiece. Quarter 3 Falcons made one change for the third quarter with Jemma King moving to the bench as Emily Watson came on at WD. It was much contested quarter with both teams trying to hit each other on the break. Falcons won the ball more often than Hornets did but unfortunately couldn’t always capitalise on this with a goal. With 2 minutes to go Francesca Desmond intercepted the ball near Hornets attacking circle, and with the support of Iman, Dom and Emily, Falcons took the ball to goal where Gaby scored a mid-range shot. Falcons then held their own pass to draw the quarter, leaving the overall score Falcons Black 29-31 Hertford Hornets. Quarter 4 Falcons made no changes for the last fifteen minutes. Hornets took the first 2 goals, however Falcons hit back to get on level terms. However, with minutes remaining of the game, Falcons Black knew they had to turn over the ball and every one of the home team stepped up the pressure. Francesca Desmond (C) made the necessary interception in the defensive third, allowing Falcons’ defence to once again drive the ball down court. Unfortunately, an unforced error in the goal third gave Hornets the ball back. Hornets then just looked after the ball to count the last 20 seconds down. Falcons won the quarter 11 goals to 10, however lost the game by 1 goal: Falcons Black 40 – 41 Hertford Hornets Congratulations to Katie Flaherty who once again was awarded Player of the Match Comments are closed.
