Back to Netball gets into the Festive Spirit
On Tuesday 11th December 2012, 65 enthusiastic ladies attended the Nottinghamshire Back to Netball Christmas Festival that was held at Lee Westwood Sports Centre, Nottingham Trent University. Seven teams where formed from several Back to Netball sessions across Nottinghamshire from Portland leisure Centre; Clifton Leisure Centre; Nottingham Community Sports Ltd; Nottingham Girls High School; Long Eaton; Eastwood and Aldercar. For the majority of the ladies this Festival was their first competitive netball since being at school and the excitement and passion they portrayed seemed to take them back to their school years.

Saturday 2nd February saw 11 Back to Netball teams from across the East Midlands descend on Soar Valley College, Leicester for the 2013 East Midlands Back to Netball Tournament.
Loughborough Lightning’s Head Coach Olivia Murphy and player Lauren Massey put the ladies through their paces with a pre-tournament warm-up consisting of some stretching, team games and ball work (including a few rogue rugby balls!) before the real competition began. Each team played the other teams once throughout the day meaning 10 games and 80 minutes netball- a big task for some people who have only been playing netball for 10 weeks. The first few games allowed the ladies to remember what they had learnt in their sessions; get used to playing with each other as for some, this was their first netball match, and warm up in what was a fairly cold netball centre in early February. By a couple of games in, the competition came out and you could see each team doing their best to get the ball up the court; score goals and win points. |

Although tired by the end of the day, everyone said they had fun and some have even asked when and where next years tournament will be!
A huge thank you to all the teams taking part, but also to the many volunteers who turned out to sell teas and coffees; time; score and umpire the games- we couldn’t have done it without any of you! To see many more photo’s from the day, like us on facebook |
