Lincoln City made one change to the team that had defeated TFC Too in their last game – Beth Richardson making a strong return at Centre (C). However, the Imps conceded three goals before Becky Baker and Anna Gilbert began hitting the net. Lincoln pulled the score back in the end though to level the game at 10-10 after the first fifteen minutes.
Lincoln remained unchanged for the second period. They started strongly, making a number of interceptions in defence. Lizzie Saywell, Lucy Heathershaw and Vic Adams overturned possession on several occasions, allowing Lincoln to take a four-goal lead at half time: 20-16.
The Imps slumped somewhat in the third quarter though, which allowed Iceni to dictate the play. Becky Baker was able to capitalise on Abby Johnson's great passes on many occasions, but overall Iceni’s defence was too tight to score all of the chances. The Imps were one goal behind at one point but in the end managed to secure a three-goal lead going into the final fifteen minutes with the overall score being 30-27.
After a stern team talk from Coach Karen, Lincoln took to the court for their final quarter. Sophie Reed made an appearance at Goal Attack (GA) and the team settled well for the last fifteen minutes. Some unforced errors did creep into Lincoln’s game but the ‘good’ passages of play far outweighed the ‘bad’ passages of play and the Imps stormed to an 11-goal lead. The final score was 43-32.
Beth Richardson was given best player by Iceni due to her excellent work rate and attacking play. Lucy Heathershaw was rewarded by the team as best player. She worked hard at GD to overturn possession through interceptions and rebounds.
