On the 10th February, Falcons Black Netball Club played Grangetown in the Premier League division 2. After a loss to the team earlier in the season, Falcons Black were determined to set the record straight this time around. The Falcons Black starting line up from GS to GK was Charlotte Roye, Christie Simpson, Hannah Joseph, Katie Flaherty, Dom McKee, Kaylea McQuade and Lauren Steadman. The beginning of the first quarter saw Grangetown take an early lead as Falcons Black took a couple of minutes to settle. After some quick, easy centres from Katie Flaherty (Centre) and Hannah Joseph (Wing Attack), Falcons Black began to close the gap but a few mistakes saw Grangetown edge ahead to take the first quarter, 10-13. However, Falcons Black knew they only needed to convert 2 turnovers to make it a completely different game.
Falcons Black had started to settle down by the end of the first quarter so maintained the same line up. This paid dividends as they came out hard in the second quarter, determined to close the gap. Both teams battled hard as Grangetown tried to pull away but every Falcons Black player worked tirelessly to ensure the quarter ended all square at 13-13. Fresh legs were introduced at half time with Anna Mulderrig coming on at Wing Defence (WD), Kaylea McQuade moving to Centre (C), Katie Flaherty to Wing Attack (WA) and Dom McKee to Goal Defence (GD). The team stepped up their game and looked hungry to win in the third quarter, which was epitomised by Lauren Steadman who made a number of great interceptions, allowing her team to pull ahead by taking the quarter 11-7. The last quarter saw a final 15-minute push from Falcons Black. The team pulled together and worked right up to the final whistle to pull off a fantastic 42-38 win. It was a great team effort with some fantastic individual performances which resulted in a well-deserved win! Most importantly though, the result could see Falcons Black move out of the Division 2/3 playoff positions. Special mention goes to Hannah Joseph as Falcons Black’s Player of the Match.
