After the success of last year’s biggest ever event and your feedback, this year’s ran to a very similar format. Pre-dinner drinks after the AGM and a 3 course meal followed by a disco after the presentation and raffle. Goody bags and raffle prizes were donated from sponsors and partners including Whitworths, Rigid.co.uk, Willows Sport Centre Derby, Boots, DAO Structural UK, Mad Dog Sports, Snowdome in Tamworth, Northants County Cricket, Agra Cottage (Bingham), National Ice Arena, England Netball & Cancer Research UK;. All monies raised has been donated to Cancer Research UK and this year through the sale of raffle tickets and an ‘ice-breaking’ game of Heads and Tails a total of £303.92 was raised. The evening’s event was all about recognising the amazing work volunteers do for netball in the East Midlands and celebrating their successes. Our MC for the evening was once again Gaynor Nash. Gaynor is a Teacher by trade, sports fanatic by nature, Games Maker, Clyde-sider, amateur journo, BT Storyteller, passionate Olympic/Paralympic/CG geek. Now semi-retired but still playing hockey, coaching and volunteering. Gaynor made the whole evening go with a swing and a welcoming address from Regional Chair Sue Collin was made to introduce our guest presenters for the awards; Robin and Petra Bourne, Lindsay Sartori EN President & Jo Adams EN CEO. Gaynor explained why we had all come together and this year we had received outstanding nominations for several of our awards categories. The nominations we had received were a true testament to the Volunteers within the Region and a massive thank you to all who have taken the time to nominate. All nominated individuals received an East Midlands Volunteer Pin Badge as recognition for their dedication and were told to wear them with pride! The Awards Ceremony began with our Regional Competition winners. East Midlands Netball run many competitions which take place within the region throughout the year. Two of the categories U14’s and U16’s then qualified and represented East Midlands at England Netball National Club Competition. Carol Spencer (Chair of the Competition Technical Support Group) came to the stage to present a new match ball to each of the winning teams. CAPS (Club Action Planning Scheme) is a programme designed to captivate you and your netball club. It aims to support you to deliver a quality netball development programme and operate in line with best practice. Dronfield Netball Club – New Bronze Accreditation High Peak Netball Club - Bronze Reaccreditation Washingborough Imps - Upgrade to Silver Cliftonettes - Bronze Reaccreditation Bingham Bullettes – Upgrade to Silver pending with minor referrals Corby - Bronze Reaccreditation pending with minor referrals Robin Bourne came to the stage to make the presentation of The Jean Bourne Back to Netball Award. This award is presented to a Back to Netball participant whose personal life style has changed significantly since coming ‘Back to Netball’, including their involvement in their local community. The winner of this year’s Jean Bourne Back to Netball Award was…….Jo West! Jo couldn’t be with us on the night so Vanessa McErlain Naylor, Lincolnshire’s County Chair was invited to the stage to collect Jo’s Award on her behalf (Jo will be presented with her award at a later date) Beginning with the Grassroots Coach of the Year award, Karen Atkinson MBE, Loughborough Lightning Head Coach was invited to the stage to present The Grassroots Coach Award which is presented to an affiliated coach who has made an outstanding contribution to netball club coaching as a volunteer for a minimum of 3 years. Moving on to Grassroots Official Award , this is presented to an affiliated volunteer who has made an outstanding contribution to netball officiating for at least 3 years. In one sentence ‘quote’ this lady is a superb role model and inspiration to all, for her resilience, determination and perseverance – yes, this years winner of the Unsung Hero Award went to …Hazel McConnell Melissa Carr – England Netball National Adult and Participation Manager (and Ex EM Regional Manager) was invited to present the Young Volunteer Award. The Young Volunteer Award is presented to a young person(s) under the age of 25 who has volunteered for at least 2 years and has made an outstanding contribution to the development of netball through volunteering. This year’s Young Volunteer Award went to… Taylor Thow! Outstanding Netball Club Award, Sue Connor, East Midlands Netball Vice Chair came to the stage to present this award. The Outstanding Netball Club Award is presented to an affiliated netball club which has made an outstanding contribution within their community. The club must hold or be working towards the CAPS award and have been active for a minimum of 3 years. The nominees are:
This clubs under 14 section qualified for England Netball Tournament and made it to Nationals – this years Outstanding Club of the Year is…..Bramcote ! Our last least award was the Mary Bulloch Administrator Award, and is awarded to someone who has given an outstanding contribution to netball delivery through administration, for a minimum of 3 years. This Award went to someone who has been on the scene for some considerable time – to say the least!
Gaynor invited Lindsay Sartori to the stage to present the award and welcomed the winner to the stage to receive her well earned Mary Bulloch Administrator Award - our very own Reginal Chair-Sue Collin! Final thanks were given to all volunteers from RMB who were presented with gifts in which special guests Lindsay Sartori (England Netball President) and Jo Adams (England Netball CEO) helped to present.
