Netball and Prosecco

16/5/2017

On Wednesday 29th March 2017, Abacas Netball Club in Corby, Northamptonshire organised a "Netball and Prosecco Evening" to support and raise funds for Women in Sport & England Netball's Partner Charity, Cancer Research UK. The evening was held at Lodge Park Sports Centre in Corby whereby club members brought along their mums, aunties, friends and neighbours for a fun filled evening of netball.  The idea for the event was inspired by a Club Matters (http://www.sportenglandclubmatters.com/) "Club Experience" Workshop hosted by the East Midlands Region in Loughborough. Following the workshop, the team thought really hard about the ways in which they could grow the club, whilst keeping the club ethos at the very heart of it and decided to organise a fun evening of netball and Prosecco. 38 ladies including volunteer coaches and organisers, of which 20 ladies were new to the session, participated in fun drills, match play, followed by a deserved glass of Prosecco.  Club members also baked some cakes and donated prizes for the raffle.  In total the event raised an amazing £344.  On behalf of the club we would like to thank our sponsors - Longbrook Property Care for our event tshirts which everyone got for attending and Sir Matt Busby Lounge Manager Louise for the Prosecco and allowing us to host the event free.

Encouraging more people to be more active, more often

At an event on Friday 31st March at Lincoln Castle Lincolnshire Sport changed their name to Active Lincolnshire and launched our new vision for the county.

Active Lincolnshire’s main aim is to increase participation in sport and physical activity across the county. By 2021, 20,021 more people will lead a more active life.

“We want Lincolnshire to be one of the most healthy and active counties in the country and we want everyone to get involved. Many businesses and organisations across the county have already pledged to support our vision.2

Lincolnshire Netball Officer Louise Key supported the event by pledging to support the increase in activity and participation through our Back to Netball and Walking Netball programmes

East Midlands Regional Clubs High 5 and Under 12 Tournament 2017

11/5/2017

The two tournaments were held together on 7th May 2017 at NUSA.

It was the first time that a major tournament has been held at our “New Home of Nottinghamshire Netball” and was a great success. The entry was large, 16 for the High 5 and 12 for the U12 making for lots of exciting netball and an enjoyable day for all whatever the ability of the teams. The weather was kind  with a sunny day, but not too warm though there were some red faces by the last matches.

The High 5 event was won by Charnwood Blue with Brigg & District runners up.
The Under 12 event winners were Futureprint with Market Harborough Meerkats second.
